Biography:
Ms. Garcia was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is fully bilingual. She was raised in South Florida where she has lived since 1970. Ms. Garcia graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1989 and was admitted to practice in Florida in October 1989. While attending the University of Miami, School of Law, she was a member of the Moot Court Board and of the Hispanic Law Student Association. Prior to that, she attended the University of Miami where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Public Affairs, 1986. While attending UM she served as treasurer of the Undergraduate Student Body Government, president of the Pre-Legal Society, president of Phi Sigma Sigma, and held various other leadership positions in campus clubs and organizations. She was also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honorary, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, and the Golden Key National Honor Society, as well as participating in numerous faculty-student committees.
Before joining the firm, Ms. Garcia was in private practice, and she was part of the faculty of Dade Christian Schools. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of Miami Dade Home Health Agency, a United Health Care of Florida, Inc. company. She also served as general counsel for Miami Dade Health Plan, Inc. While in private practice she had a general civil practice where she concentrated in representing buyers and sellers in real estate and business transactions, representing lenders in real property closings, and writing title policies as an agent for Attorney’s Title Insurance Fund.
Ms. Garcia enjoys community service, mentoring and coaching high school students. She started a High School Mock Trial Program at DCSS and was recognized by the Florida Supreme Court for her commitment to law related education and volunteer involvement with the Florida Bar’s High School Mock Trial Competition Program. She has also been recognized by United Seniors of Miami and the Miami Dade County Board of Commissioners for volunteering her time to assist senior citizens.
